I'm too heavy for my clothes

Many people ask how do you pack for 7 months, and i thought pretty easy, as i listed everything and thought i would be fine...well i realized that my pack is far too heavy for 7 months. it weighs over 40lbs. which not only is too heavy to carry around all day, but the airlines don't like it either for certain low cost flights.
well what is a person supposed to do. the way i see it i have 3 options: 1) i could start discarding things especially the books and some of the things i have doubles of 2) i could get used to carrying more weight or 3) i could loose some weight to compensate for new luggage. seeing as these are all pretty difficult ill have to work on it, but needless to say i need to do all three or die from exhaustion, blisters and back pain.
