After taking the ferry to Fishguard, Wales - we were supposed to take a train to Cardiff, Wales at 1 am and be in Cardiff by 2:30 am. As soon as we got to Fishguard, the police informed us that the rail drivers went on strike as of 12 am that day. Fishguard has only two bus routes out of the town, so the rail company paid for taxi shuttles to carry the people from the ferry who bought rail tickets to the next town to catch a different train system run by a different company. However, only one taxi was from the town, so we had to wait for him to take two loads of 5 people and drive back to pick us up first. The drive to the next town was one hour and a half one way, so we waited for four and a half hours until we got picked up. It was odd because there was no workers there, no signs from the train company and five minutes after we got to Fishguard, the only communication we got was from the police, and we had to try and figure out ourselves how we were going to get anywhere. But it all worked itself out - and the taxi shuttle was paid for by the rail company and we arrived to Cardiff at 8 am after leaving from Killarney, Ireland at 8 am the precious morning. The hostel even made us pay for the previous night because we didn't make it to, so we are going to try and get our money back from the rail company for that as well.
Cardiff is beautiful. The buildings are all whiteish in colour and gardens everywhere. There is one street that has a metal cutout of a tree, with flower baskets all over. It is much cheeper than Ireland here, probabaly Ireland has to import all its goods via ferry from Britain. But we are on our way out to go out with our room mate who is a firefighter from New Zeland here cometing in the world fire fighter games!! (don't worry dad I told him all about you and humboldt :)
Love you, Miss you
