Baba and I woke up this morning, ate some kolace and packed up the flat. Venda came to pick us up at about 10am to take us to Hyskov.

When we got to Hyskov, aunty Jitka made us lunch whivh was a Christmas eve tradition of brown lentils, boiled sausage, fried egg, onion and pickle. Baba and Jitka couldn't find the reason to why it was their tradition but it was just something they always remembered since they were quite young.

Aunt Jitka then brought out a large tray filled with different cookies, all small and quite detailed. I felt like I had to try them all so kept going back to them and trying different ones lol.

I then sat with the boys for a bit while they watched some kiddie movies in Czech. I tried to upload holiday photos but it was taking a very long time and ended up becoming too hard to label every photo at the time.

Cousin Jitka, Hamuldi, little Venda and I then went for a walk around the village. There was the clear air smell but at the same time filled with a smoky wood fire smell. we came across a field with horses where the horses came up close to us by the fence. They were lovely horses and the boys seemed to like watching them walk around and two rubbing their faces against eachother.

After we got back from the walk we started to organise presents from "baby Jesus" (the children are usually given their presents on Christmas eve before their dinner to entertain them and because carp with bones is eaten for dinner and dangerous if eaten quickly). While Jitka tried to smuggle the presents downstairs for the boys, I tried to distract them and ended up trying to trap them in the bathroom for a few minutes while they both used the toilet.

Jitka then came up and I snuck down with some perfume I bought Baba and my camera, ready for the boys to come. Aunt Jitka rang a little bell around the house and then the boys came downstairs as they had heard baby Jesus.

The boys were so shocked when they came downstairs to find the real Christmas tree lit up in fairy lights and a huge amount of presents beneath.

The presents were then distributed bit by bit and I even got given a few things like a Czech fairy tales book, ornament type things, Karlovy Vary special bath oil, Czech Christmas CDs and diamond earrings! The diamond earrings were sneakily given to Baba from Ryan at the airport before we left Adelaide apparently. When I got the present I opened it up and opened the card. As soon as I started to read the card it made me all teary :p. it made me miss Ryan even more but happy as well be side I get to see him in a few days now.

Jitka and I tried to assemble a playmobil animal ranger type house thing for Venda which was quite difficult. It made me realize how tough parents have it with the assembling of all the larger toys!

It was time for dinner soon after. Carp is the main ingredient for Czech Christmas dinners. The first course was a dark barley with wild mushrooms, cream and garlic. The second course was a carp and vegetable soup which I tried a little bit of and it wasn't too bad. The third course was carp and Ickes vegetables in aspic. I thought that one was a bit icky so didn't have any. The fourth course was fried carp, but I wasn't too keen on the idea and too full anyway. I had a few glasses of red wine during dinner instead. For dessert, big Jitka brought out a Czech nut cake she had made. I had a piece of the cake which was quite yummy but I was too full to have much more. Jitka then brought out a fresh tray filled with more cookies and placed them right in front of me. I actually had to move the tray because I kept eating them lol.

We all sat about and chatted for a bit while drinking some wine. I obviously could only join in on the conversation when things were translated for me though.

I finished uploading some photos and we to have a shower and was in bed at 12am. Quite a late night here as it gets dark very early.
