Well eventually, sadly, the time has come to leave our friends and drive north - yes north, towards Canada. It's been 3 yrs since we were in Nova Scotia and we're definitely looking forward to seeing everyone again. It was a nice bright sunny morning as we drove away from the "Caron mansion", it was just a few miles to the border with Maine. We had decided to head out on the freeway to begin with and then cut across to the coast to Acadia national park.
We were encouraged to see that we weren't alone going north - the time is fast approaching when all the snowbirds will be hitting the road and going south! - but comfortingly there were others like us.    I suppose there is still 'The Fall' to be seen and this attracts large numbers of 'leaf peepers'. Anyway it was an interesting journey...more helpful signs and advice along the way. Don't think it'll catch on in the UK though! We camped at a great site in Ellsworth, the campsite wasn't very busy but was very well kept, it is run by a couple who are RVers themselves and have designed the site the way they think it should be and we think they've got it just right. After we had hooked up, we took a walk into the town; it was nice to stretch our legs. Ellsworth is a neat, well kept place with some interesting buildings.

Next morning we drove the short distance to Bar Harbor, a charming town and obviously a magnet for tourists. It was very picturesque - so of course we took lots of photos!

There was a cruise ship in the harbor and its tender was busy ferrying eager shoppers to shore. Great for business, but it did make for crowded streets - well Main Street. Most of the visitors seemed content with walking little and spending lots! I suppose we've been a bit spoilt in that we have spent lots of time away from crowds, so they do seem irritating when we find ourselves amongst them. Anyway that said we did explore a little and found some very interesting shops...what d'you think girls?

Next we headed for the Acadia Park itself, there are several entrances, but we chose the one leading to Cadillac Mt. The drive to the top was spectacular, some of the most beautiful views we have seen, it was a great day for it too. We found a quiet spot close to the summit and had our picnic lunch, we could see for miles, all along the coast that is littered with islands.

We also visited the Bass harbor lighthouse, though I have to say this was a bit disappointing. I was expecting the 'traditional' striped kind - however the main thing of course is its purpose. this is the pretty link this is the history link! It has been a good day, lots to see, lots to enjoy.
