Thursday 21st
Fay seems to be hovering over FL waiting to see what our next move might be...she thwarted our efforts to go across to Tampa and for the last day or so has paused over the coast just north of us. Surely never has a tropical storm shuddered to such a 'halt', though talking to the locals it seems that forecasts are seldom accurate in these cases. We've been surprised to hear this as we have usually been very impressed with the forecasting on our travels.
I have to say I don't think we have ever consulted so many sources of info, watched so many weather updates and listened to so many emergency broadcasts...or, been so frustrated to have got it so wrong!! Having spent the best part of 3 days solid in Bree (don't get me wrong we love our home) while it rained non stop and we watched the water levels rise around us, it was with pure relief that when it stopped last night, we thought it had come to an end. The area we were staying in had had somewhere in the region of 2-3 feet of rain in that time. Noah has been mentioned more than once I can tell you! This morning the levels had dropped and we could at least see the exit road from the park, so we bit the bullet and made a run for it. We made sure we followed a route well away from any potential flood waters, even though it meant taking the long way round, this however, was much against Malc's grain, always seeking the best possible mpg per hop.

So by mid afternoon we pulled into the campsite that is attached to Lazy days, the dealership we have been wanting to visit in Tampa on the west coast. Malc, relieved and very happy to be on the road once more, took the short 3 and a half hour journey in his stride, he really loves driving Bree. Why, then I hear you say are we at a dealership? Well, to look at other options really. Conscious that Bree is not getting any younger and to protect our investment, we thought we'd take a look at something a little newer, maybe even a 5th wheel. Malc has always fancied one of those big 'throaty' trucks and 5th wheelers give much more living space than a motor home.
Explanation: motor home - bit like a bus, everything you need in one unit (apologies to our American/Canadian friends who know all this!) with slides ie. extensions that move out sideways when bus is parked. You usually tow a car behind (toad) so you have a smaller vehicle to explore in when you are in a campsite. Our complete rig, Bree + toad is 51ft long!
5th Wheel - kind of like a caravan in that it has to be towed by something else but articulated on the back of a pick up, but with much more room, also has slides. Truck is your vehicle for exploring.
Anyway, tomorrow we will go see what they have.
Great to be dry and nice to see a sunset.
