THE GUEST BLOG:

Texana State Park, by "The Jenkins"

The first drive in Bree - very smooth just like the cheese - you can even read a book on the move without feeling motion sickness -  cup of tea when you like, having a little shuteye and even going to the loo. Well at least we could, the Thornleys were concentrating on getting us to the next place in one piece. We must say that this RV is a dream to travel in. Before we know it we are turning into our first State Park complete with Rangers with large white trucks. Our allocated spot was great just by the waters edge (didn't know about the 'gators then). The campsite was well laid out friendly hosts and lots of room between pitches. We wasted no time in getting to know the place and how better to see the wildlife,  than a walk through the park and then a trip in a canoe (still didn't know about the 'gators), although the host did warn us that it was very easy to over turn this type of canoe. So maybe a little gingerly but we were off. Saw a number of birds and lots of bubbles coming up from below.

So what do four grown adults do, in canoes on a lake which we now know is full of 'gators - (this fisherman told us there we lots, about 12 feet long at least) - well you have a race of course. Although the Thornleys kept changing the rules -  we were gracious in defeat. With aching arms and wet bums we lifted the canoes out onto dry land and walked back to the RV. On the way we met another host who carved humming birds to sell, so with two birds and one duck and two trolleys of logs we headed back for our supper.

So a feast under the stars with a roaring log fire what more can you ask for? Well actually it could have been a little warmer but hey who cares we're Brit's on holiday.

Next morning we awoke to a by now familiar smell of burnt wood lingering on the clothes we wore last night, a quick cup of tea and off into the woods to get right up close with nature. The previous day we saw an opossum up a tree sleeping in the sun, turtles basking on a log, turkey vultures circling overhead and a couple of horses.

So today what else would we see - a herd (well 6) deer walking through the campsite and that was it, no armadillos to be found anywhere. However this was to be my lucky day - I got to drive Bree - at least from the pitch to the pump-out station, I think I could get used to this...   Want one

Well we've lightened our load _ OH that's BETTER... Now it's off to San Antonio and the Rodeo.
