Despite being warned that it is a party town and maybe not our usual style of destination, we took Mary and Chris' recommendation and headed out to Anjuna, a small beach town on the Goan coast.  There is something to be said about travelling in the off-season: although this town can be absolutely hopping in the winter, now it is quiet and relaxing, but still has everything we need.  We are staying at Don Joao's resort (also thanks to Mary's recommendation) and have scored a great off-season deal: an entire apartment, with AC and access to the swimming pool, for about $12/night.  No complaints there!
This is definitely a resort town.  Restaurants and bars line the beach, but there are stretches of quiet sand between (although I think these peaceful stretches are filled with beach huts in the high season).  Drinking laws are quite relaxed here, which means we were able to order a delicious, spicy Bloody Mary yesterday, rimmed with the thickest salt I have ever seen on a glass - much needed to help us rehydrate!  Who needs electrolyte salts when we can have drinks like that?  :)
We plan to spend a few days here, lounging by the pool, walking along the quiet beach, eating, drinking, and taking it easy.  This is the honeymoon part of the trip, for sure!

Wow, Anjuna looks like a great place to stop. Great rates too at Do n Joao's Resort. Are there small crab in the ocean there like there are here in British Columbia? Your beer must have been inviting during the evenings:)
