Although there is a train ride from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok, it is not a direct single journey. The international coach to Bangkok starts in Penang; meaning if I were to opt for such ride I had to take an intercity train from Kuala Lumpur to Penang before taking another train to Bangkok. A week earlier, I had gone to KL Sentral to purchase my train ticket to Bangkok; since the e-Ticket service was not available online on KTMB website.

Having said so and thanks to the convenient Transnasional Express Bus ticket purchase system, I chose to start my journey on this day using a typical transportation method - express bus. Initially my thought was to head straight to Penang, but since the Penang's train station is about 45 minutes away from my parents' home, I chose to have a night in Sungai Petani, Kedah - before leaving.

The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Sungai Petani was about 4 1/2 hours. Cruising along the expressway, this was my experience taking an express bus in the morning. I reached the Sungai Petani express bus terminal slightly after noon. Take note on the small size of the terminal, despite Sungai Petani being the second largest town in Kedah. Nevertheless, the terminal offers several transition transport mode, such as city buses as well as taxis, if you need a ride to another location.

Sungai Petani is the second largest city in Kedah. It used to be Kedah's administrative capital, long...long...long time ago. This city offers several exciting historical attractions, but the best one would be the archeological site of Lembah Bujang, which is about half an hour car-ride from the city center. The town is located nearby mangroves forest, which means it is also nearby to the coastal line of Kedah. Go and find seafood for dinner in the famous Tanjung Dawai area, where you can also buy local specialty for souvenirs.

My parents had just moved to Sungai Petani so I took this opportunity to have some quality time with them for a simple sight-seeing around the town.
