After a 3 hour flight we landed in Melbourne and for the first time on our trip we had someone waiting to collect us- Mairead's cousin Kerry! Kerry took us to our new flat which we would be sharing with her, a 2 bedroom flat with all mod-cons and only 10 mintes walk to St Kilda beach. What more could we ask for! The next few days we pretty hectic as we sampled Melbourne's nightlife. Melbourne is a great city with hundreds of bars, restaurants and nightclubs. We were in our element and knew we could easily make Melbourne our home for the next 3 months!

Beofre we knew it, it was Christmas. Being away from home we were not expecting any pressies but were overwhelmed when, on Christmas morning, Kerry produced presents form our families back home. These had been sent over with Mairead's other cousin Brenda who had returned from a trip to Ireland in November. It was a lovely surprise! Then Kerry, Brenda and their Mum Lynn produced even more presents including perfume, ipod and cd vouchers, books and what has to be one of the best presents either of us have ever been given....tickets for a U2 concert in Melbourne on 24th March, from Kerry! That afternoon we did what Aussies do best and hit the beach from a barbie. Lynn had bought every kind of meat, fish and shellfish under the sun, and of course not forgetting the 4 "slabs of stubbies" (24 packs of beer) champagne and an array of spirits... it looked like it was going to be a great day. By 9pm the BBQ had still not been lit and it was starting to get dark. We were having so much craic we forgot all about the BBQ. Conor was nominated chef and so he got to work and cooked up a "flamin' bonza barbie."
After the barbie it was back to our flat for a combined Christmas and flat warming party!

After Christmas we just settled into life in Melbourne, did a mountain of washing and booked oursellves on the bus to Sydney for New Years Eve!
