Milford Sound is part of the Fiordland National Park in Southwest New Zealand. Many scenes from the Lord of the Rings trilogy were filmed in this National Park. Unfortunatley we didn't have much time to explore all the fiordlands. We did manage to get to Milford Sound which is the most famous and supposedly the most beautiful part. The only way to get out onto the Sound is to take a cruise. We booked the cheapest one possible and hit the water. The 2 hour cruise took in some amazing sites including Mitre Peak, some beautiful waterfalls and the highlight of the day, a colony of seals. It was hard to stop taking photos and by the time we got off the boat we had clocked up over 50! This has to one of the most beautiful places we have been in New Zealand so far. That night we drove back to Te Anau , a small village in the fiordland and stayed in a cabin in a caravan park, because it was too cold to camp. Even though Milford Sound was an eight hour drive from Queenstown it was well worth the journey.
