We arrived in the capital city on a Sunday afternoon so there wasn't much happening.
Wellington is the main port for ferries travelling between the North and South Islands.

We booked our ferry for the next day and looked for somewhere to stay for the night. As there are no camp sites in the city and hostels were really expensive we decided to sleep in the car. We parked in a car park by the bay. Got out the gas cooker and cooked up some burgers and beans. After a beer or two we put the seats back, got into our warmest clothes, wriggled into our sleeping bags and nodded off. Apart from poor room service we thought it was good value for money!
