We woke up again today to more rain for the 4th morning in a row. We are not having much luck with the weather since we left Melbourne. We hoped it would pick up in Byron Bay but it didn't! Byron Bay looked like a really nice place if it had been sunny but the weather was crap. so we couldn't do anything. As with all of Australia everything revolved around the beach and therefore the weather.
That night we heard there had been a category 5 cyclone in Northern Queensland and we were experiencing the tail end of the system! Thanks Larry!

Things were getting pretty boring on the camp site and after the excitement of trying to buy our dinner with $5 we had to endure the utter boredom of waiting in line in the camp kitchen to use the hob. Thank God we had our wine!

At least we had Nimbin to look forward to for a culture change "There's some goood sh#? in here man"
"There's some goood sh#? in here man"
. Nimbin is a small one street town which was set up by a bunch of peace loving hippies in the 1960s. Its a weird little place where 60 year olds with dread locks and nose rings try to sell you bags of weed outside the local police station. It's a weird set up. It seems like this little town is Australia's answer to Amsterdam. If a shop on the Main Street wasn't selling drugs it was selling equipment to help you smoke them. Buses of backpackers rolled in every 10 minutes to have a look around but most hit the road a half hour later with glazed eyes and sporting a few new dreadlocks. We weren't far behind them minus the dreads and the glazed eyes. An hour or 2 is enough here unless you wan to curl up with a bong and a kebab for the night and wake up beside some wrinkly hippy in his urine soaked bed!

That night we went back to Byron Bay and were kept awake most of the night by torrential rain. Luckily enough we are heading to the Sunshine State tomorrow so hopefully that will be the end of the rain!
