It felt good to arrive in Sydney. It felt familiar because we were there for a few days over New Years Eve. We parked up our car illegally and went to the nearest book shop to find out where the nearest camp site was (because we didn't have a campsite guide.) Camping in Sydney city centre is not as popular as you might think! The nearest campsite is 10km outside the city centre in a suburb called San Souci so off we went.
At night camping gets very boring, there's nothing much to do except have a few glasses of our $10 box of wine and hit the hay.
The next day we headed back into the city and parked up in our new found spot and went sightseeing for the day, taking in the infamous Opera House and Harbour Bridge. That night we stayed in King's Cross area of Sydney where we hooked up with a friend we met in Melbourne. This area is one of the liveliest areas in Sydney with lots of bars, clubs, backpackers and prostitutes...not always a good combination.
We next day we went on a harbour cruise and then headed to Manly beach, 6km outside the city centre. We had some lunch before hitting the road. We drove for 2 hours north to Gosford. It was a really boring city so we decided to move on and camp at Shelley beach. We set up the tent and then went to the camp kitchen to cook dinner. It was then we realised that this was a residential caravan site and we were surrounded by full on Aussie trailer trash. Whole families argued around the bbq taking no notice of us on lookers!
