Day 6 of Dengue Fever and the symptoms were beginning to lift slightly. We caught a bus to Singapore and checked into our cheapest hotel yet- Le'Meridien Singapore 5*, two nights free accommodation courtesy of Mairead's Dad (thanks Dad.) We trundled in across the marble lobby with our dirty shoes and scruffy attire. We threw our rucksacks down and were met with a strange look from the receptionist, "Do you need directions?" She asked "Yes, to one of your finest rooms please" we scoffed. After a moment of disbelief it was true our names were there in black and white and the porter helped us to our executive suite (without a tip).
After months of roughing it out in backpacker hostels we had struck gold! All sorts of gadgets, ointments, lotions to pamper our beat down skins - What a great way to finish our 3 months in Asia. After a good night's sleep Conor was ready to take on Singapore....well step outside the hotel at least and manage his first meal in eight days
Singapore is a shoppers paradise if you have thousands of dollars to spend, we were happy enough to window shop! That night we went to Raffles Hotel for a famous Singapore Sling cocktail. Unfortunately Conor had to settle for a Shirley Temple because he wasn't ready for alcohol yet, but Mairead made up for Conor and had two!! Any saving we had made on our free hotel had now been wiped out in one round! The bill for 2 Singapore Slings and one Shirley Temple was nearly 20 quid which is almost our budget for a whole day!!!
That rounds off our three months in Asia, heading down under to Perth tomorrow. Will write soon.

Its Christmas at last
. We got our first taste of Christmas in Singapore, everywhere was lit up and there was a Christmas tree on every corner. It just didn't feel like Christmas though, probably something to do with the 30 degree heat and the fact the sun was splitting the Christmas trees! where have all the stories gone?
(to the tune of The Sash)
The way they're told is oh so beautiful
And the stories they were fine,
They were told in Delhi,Angkor Bat, Vietnam and the Mekong,
Sure my father joined us in Bangkok,
and left there deep in debt,
and its now been almost 6 long weeks since we logged on to the internet.

no more stories any more
There were beggars in New Delhi
and tigers in the hills.
We heard graphic detailed stories about diarrhoea pills.
We watched the sun go down
whilst sipping a Singapore Sling.
And visited every temple built by Emperor Ming.
We walked in Ghandi's footsteps,
the Taj Mahal's a joy.
Who is that gorgeous woman?
No Conor, its a lady boy.
When the tales they did cease
we were all so very shocked.
We knew as this was Aussie it must be writers blocked!
