For the last 3 days we have been staying on Don Det island, one of the 4000 islands in the middle of the Mekong River. It is a really chilled out and remote place with the electricity only being switched on for 2 hours a day. on our second day here we took bikes out and drove around the island to see some waterfalls and fresh water dolphins that live there (but we didn't get to see any) Today we hired out some tubes and floated down the river for a few kms, which was good fun, the rest of our time here has been spent in hammocks which hang from our front porch overlooking the river. Things are pretty cheap down here and we managed to score a good bungalow for just $1 a night.

So far we have found Laosians to be laid back and chilled out but nowhere more so than on these islands where you can wait for anything up to 3 hours for your food during which time you may catch a glimpse of your chef relaxing in his hammock.

Hammock life has been great but we are ready to move on and are getting a boat back to the mainland tomorrow where we will get a bus to the capital, Vientiane.
