Got another night train back to Delhi. It felt good to be back in a city we know. We felt completely different about Delhi this time after three weeks in India, we were loving it!

Haggled with a tuk tuk drivers to take us to see the slights including the Red Fort, India Gate and the Lotus Temple. We chilled out over a coffee and wandered around the bazaars. We are going to have a few beers tonight and the last supper in India. (we are going to really miss the food!!!)

Overall, we both really enjoyed our three weeks in India. We have had some ups and downs but overall it has been a mind blowing experience in every sense. It is hard to put into words our experiences and feelings of India. It is a country which you just have to go to yourself to understand it Bazaar in Delhi
Bazaar in Delhi
. No matter how much you read, hear about it and mentally prepare yourself for it, you can never imagine what you are about to experience.

Some things we really liked about India:

Taj Mahal
The Food
Some of the people
The cultural diversity
The weather
The fact everyone speaks English
The haggling
The price of everything
The desert
Temples, monuments, forts

Some things we didn't like about India:

Poverty
Hygiene
The way that tourists were charged 25 times more than Indians for entrance fees to tourist attractions
The touts
The feeling of being ripped off
No night life/culture
People starring at us

Advice to fellow travellers:

Always book trains as early as possible, you can book them 60 days in advance, seats fill up really quickly Holy Cow!
Holy Cow!
.
Never accept the first price you are offered by anyone.
Organising an airport pick up can make things less stressful
Trust nobody
Be vigilant in bus and train stations, people are always watching you especially in Varanasi.
Do not drive at night, the roads are hectic
Good luck, enjoy, have fun!

Off to Thailand tomorrow will write soon!

Belfast with Elephants
Dear Mairead and Conor
realy enjoying the adventures.Take Taj Mahal from your list of Indian likes and dislikes and it sounds just like Belfast with elephants. We don't have as many forts here as we used to and we have isolated pockets of good hygiene but it seems to be very similar even down to the transport system. In fact now that I think of it isn't there a Taj Mahal on the Lisburn Road ?
Love Dad
