After pulling anchor in North East,Md.we had a discussion on our travel plans. The weather is still not favorable off shore and we don't want to sit in Chesapeake City or Cape May N.J.waiting for a weather window so we have decided to continue to cruise and gunkhole the middle and upper Chesapeake until August 1 then we will dock the boat in Georgetown yacht basin and rent a 40ft motor coach and travel by land.Maine is actually only 500 miles from where we will leave the boat,so we will be able to see all the sights we had planned on in the boat and return end of August and make our way to Baltimore where we have a special quest who will be coming to visit(DEE) my very dear friend. So we take a ride up the Susquehanna to see Havre De Grace and our plan was to cross back to the Eastern shore and anchor again at Fairlee Creek so we could do some swimming BUT we found the most awesome place to drop the hook for the day and night. The Susquehanna is the mother tributary and contributes more than half of the fresh water that feeds the Chesapeake Bay and reaches more than 450 miles into upstate New York. The Conowingo Dam upstream controls the flow of the river. The 18th century town of Havre De Grace (French for "HARBOR OF MONEY")has the old Concord Point Lighthouse and there are four bridges one right after the other--the Bullet train---I-95---RT.40---and the freightline. We pass the granite quarry of Port Deposit and a huge rock cliff. The town of Port Deposit is all made of granite including the sidewalks. There are four layers of houses that hang onto the side of the cliff just off the waterfront. There are steps and tunnels to travel up the cliffs and about the old town. The Susquehanna is well known for the BASS so there are lots of bass boats and fisherman. So the anchorage we found was below the cliff in 20 ft of water and close to shore with a park and dock.We were the only anchored boat PERFECT!!!!!There are a couple marinas that hire college students during the summer and this year its the 'BIKINI GIRLS" these marinas cant keep enough fuel they are so busy.I GUESS WE WONT" BE GETTING FUEL THERE!!!!!Our next stop will be Rock Hall they have great CRABS and a great marine supply store there are a few things we need then off the WYE RIVER to view all the FIREWORKS.
