We are ready to move on to another anchorage especially after all the fun and excitement Jellyfish Joels and the Fairlee Creek anchorage had to offer. So back into the Bay looks like another cloudy day with showers. We head further North and pass Tolchester Beach and Betterton which were popular beach resorts in the days when passenger steamships from Baltimore made regular runs to its larger hotel and amusement park which are now gone you can still see remnants of the huge rollercoaster from the water and the bandstand was placed on display at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels,Md.many famous musicians performed there over the years. We enter the mouth of the Sassafras River it is one of the lovliest rivers on the Eastern shore. The sassafras has several fine yachting centers, the river is deep and well marked and has attractive banks and numerous anchorages with easy access. The sassafras is a popular stop for cruisers either leaving or entering the C & D Canal. The river is 9 miles up to the town of Georgetown and the area is a quiet retreat ,a place to recharge the soul.We choose to hookup to a mooring ball(WE SURE HOPE THIS ONE IS OKAY)we choose the vacant one closest to the shore and beautiful wooded forest. It is very protected and secluded but close enough to dinghy into the dinghy dock with MR.DACH.Atop the green rolling hill is the KITTY KNIGHT INN and THE DECK restaurant. The Inn is historical from the 1800"s and the deck was an added house both were spared in the burning of Maryland from the British troops so there is a legend of MISS KIITY KNIGHT.The inn and restaurant overlook the river and WHAT a view. There is also a pool and an ICE CREAM PARLOR.Across the river is the GRANARY RESTAURANT which is a restored granary and TWO TOOTS will boat you over free of charge they will even come to your boat and pick you up.In the Chesapeake they have a PROGRESSIVE DINNER BY WATER which is really neat. You begin at a waterfront restaurant and have appetizers and drinks----then you are boated to the next restaurant for the main meal(STEAMED CRABS,SHRIMP,CORN ON THE COB,COLESLAW,ETC.) then finally boated for dessert and coffee for the COST OF $50 a person.HOW COOL!!!!!They also have a BAY RIDE like our HAYRIDE  it is a 50,78,or 104 mile ride flat or a 27 mile loop past historic scenery ending with a cookout and swimming. The wildlife in BLUE DOLPHINS back yard is amazing, every kind of forest bird and water fowl. Our next stop will be the Bohemia River in Chesapeake City,MD.even more secluded and beautiful.
