From Xi'an we headed down to Chongqing to catch the Yangzte cruise, or rather the cheaters version, the hydrofoil!  Chongqing wasn't a bad spot actually - full of skyscrapers and pleasantly free from hawkers.  We indulged ourselves here with a nice hotel and a trip to Pizza Hut.  Felt quite unbecomingly smug for not having decided to do the cruise when we saw two fellow travellers sitting gloomingly outside Pizza Hut in the rain waiting for the 11pm departure!

The hydrofoil is a perfect way to see the Three Gorges for anyone with a short attention span.  In fact, to be honest, by the third gorge we'd had enough already and stayed watching the Korean movie in the cabin instead of going to the door to catch the best views.

The end point of the 'cruise' was Yichang which proved to be a pleasant surprise.  It's a very modern and quite snazzy looking city.  There was a festival on while we were there so the place was decorated with flowers and banners.  Not quite sure what the festival was actually for - perhaps they've finally finished the Three Gorges Dam??
