(No photos today - forgot to take the iPad when we went out.)
Here we are back where we were on 5 September, having flown here from Singapore on our way to Munich. Our time o/s has gone sooooo quickly. We are grateful to be here, in light of developments over the last 24 hours! We had a good flight - three hrs from Rome - and the view from the plane was stunning. A beautiful place with lots of trees (lots) many turning yellow/ orange, red barns with green roofs, lovely looking houses and tidy countryside and surrounded by sea, with heaps of islands. It was a beautiful afternoon, though only 10 degrees (according to the pilot). We were met at Helsinki airport in a pre-arranged pick up - a Finnish man in a Mercedes. Was nice to be in a comfortable, clean car again. He spoke good English so we chatted away for the 20 mins into the city. Always good to get local information from a local driver. It was refreshing to see all the trees, open spaces of green grass and newer buildings after the ancient, tired, unloved buildings of Rome, the dirty streets and cigarette butts everywhere. We enjoyed an excellent meal out at a local restaurant (where I managed to break 1/4 of my front tooth - no reflection on the meal!). Oh dear!! Then walked round some of the city streets and down to the waterfront, where they were packing up after today's market. All looked pretty nice and interesting. I'm sure we will enjoy our day tomorrow.
