Fortunately we were sitting in the back, so it was not too obviously, and by the time the hymn had finished they had pulled themselves together. I was reminded during our time there that whilst I felt like I was in a time warp, this still was God's house and God's people in this amazing place called the world. The poor Vicar looked worn out - no wonder when she told us after that she looked after 10 churches.
We headed off into Newport to find some dinner and were slightly worried about the emptiness of the city, lack of eating places and the restlessness of people we saw. We did find a place that served a Sunday night roast. We got a meal each and a drink (wine, beer or soft drink) for equivalent $10 each. Glad to have food in our tummies and get out of the city.
(We discovered after from the host at Hazel Court, that had she known we were going into the centre of Newport, she would have advised against it. Apparently a new shopping centre has been built and the city precinct has deteriorated with 24 hr drinking and unruly behaviour).
Tomorrow we will check out Cardiff and Bath.
