Have returned from our day on Iona - wonderful. Iona was the centre of Irish Monasticism for four centuries. The Iona Community runs 3 residential centres - 2 on Iona and another on the Isle of Mull. John Bell, songwriter of many hymns used by the UCA, is a member of the Iona Community, and visits the island from time to time. We were on a large ferry by 10am, headed for the Isle of Mull, where we hopped on a bus to traverse north to south (1 hr) , onto another smaller ferry and 10 mins later on the Isle of Iona. Two hrs later, reversed. Weather fine, but cool. Returned to Oban, enjoyed a meal at "Coast" - nice restaurant and then walked off what we'd eaten. Oban is very similar to Akaroa / Stewart Island (Sth Is, NZ).
