After finishing that dive it was back to the shop for a break and another tank. We decided to dive Nitrox the second dive -- they had two tanks available for us to use. The second dive was to Hangover Reef
After returning to the dive shop it was time to rinse the gear and change for some lunch and island touring. Rinda from the dive shop connected us with "Chocolate" a local taxi driver to take us on a tour after lunch. We had a nice lunch at a local restaraunt and was able to enjoy another meal outside. In addition to having Chocolate tour us around the island he had another passenger with him. An attractive younger women who didn't speak english. Toward the end of the tour he dropped her off at a very nice house...when Bob asked if that was her house he told us "no it is a brothel and she lives/works there." Guess prostitution is legal on many of the islands.... :) After completing the tour it was back to the airport for our quick flight back to St. Maarten. Another successful day of touring and diving.
For those interested in history, here are some quick facts about Statia:
Thirty Statian blue beads were used by the Dutch to purchase New York's Manhattan Island.
Statia was the first place to recognize US independance.
Sold gunpowder and arms to the thirteen colonies during the American Revolution.
Had the busiest trading port in the Carribean until the British destroyed the waterfront in retaliation for helping the US.
