Day 1 July 7, 2007: Brevard, NC to Frederick, MD
Liz and I got up around 8:00 and had breakfast.  She left to teach a Nia class at 8:50.  I brought my gear downstairs.  Audrey arrived at 9:50.  We loaded my stuff into her car and, after gassing up, headed up to I-26, which we followed to I-81 and headed toward Maryland.  She drove for a few hours until we stopped at a Subway.  I drove the next few hours in moderate traffic but good weather.  She took over again just south of Staunton, VA.  We stayed on I-81 until Winchester, where we got on Rt. 7 to Berryville and picked up US 340, taking it into Frederick, MD via Charles Town, WV.
On the way up, Audrey revealed she had a UTI and was trying to cure it herbally without success.  I told her we had to knock it out before heading into the boonies of Iceland.  Using her cell phone, she contacted both sisters, a CVS pharmacy in Frederick, and her doctor in Friendsville, MD to have an antibiotic prescription awaiting her when we arrived.  We had a little trouble finding the pharmacy but we got the pills and she took one.
Audrey's sister and brother-in-law, Emily and John Fogle, our hosts for the night, said they would be late getting home from their Caribbean cruise due to a flat tire at BWI and recommended that we eat somewhere on Market St. in Frederick.  We found our way there and stopped in a great rock shop.  The owner poured me a glass of wine when I walked in.  Both Audrey and I vowed to return on our way back to Brevard.  He has some great specimens at good prices.
A guy on the street told us that Brewer's Alley was a good pub so we tried their nut brown ale and ended up staying for dinner.  Afterward, we drove about 20 miles east on I-70 to John and Emily's place, where we were able to let ourselves in.  The dogs were happy to have company.  I picked up John's guitar and Audrey and I sang a few songs.  John and Emily drove up on the third song.  The dogs went nuts.
The four of us sat around talking for more than an hour.  My falling asleep prompted everyone to go to bed. I slept in the spare bedroom and Audrey got the sofa.  I was out in no time.
