Day 1: June 20, 2007 Brevard to Atlanta

The original destination for the day was Quito but it didn't work out that way. Liz brought me up to the Asheville Airport to pick up the Alamo Rental Car. It turns out that the Alamo desk is in the Holiday Inn. After waiting 15 minutes for the shuttle bus, I just had Liz drive me over. The woman at the desk was on the phone for 5 minutes. At 10:00, I finally got the car and drove down to Barbara's house. It was hard to say goodbye to Liz.

Barbara and I left at 10:30 and took US 276 down to Route 11 in South Carolina. We made a quick pit stop near Lake Jocassee and continued on, stopping for lunch at Wendy's on I-85. Traffic was heavy but flowing in the Atlanta area. We made another pit stop which took about 20 minutes. Then, as we neared the airport we got off the highway to fill the tank. I got confused getting back on to I-85 because of the lack of signs, so we did a u-turn and then realized we were okay originally and made another. After turning in the rental car, the shuttle took awhile to get going.

We arrived at the terminal 1:15 later than I planned and then got into two wrong lines. It was hopeless. By the time we got to check-in our tickets were gone. We spoke with several people from Delta but no one took the initiative to help us. It was so frustrating. If almost anything had gone more efficiently, we would have made our flight. We were able to get a message to Todd that we would fly down the next day.

We got 2 rooms at the airport Super 8. I watched CNN until dinner when we walked over to Ruby Tuesday's. Both of us ordered Buffalo Burgers. After dinner I watched TV and went to bed.
