Where I stayed
on the bus
I slept without waking until almost 8:00, awakening somewhere between Comodoro Rivadavia and Rawson. We made a seemingly interminable stop for gas in Rawson before continuing to Trelew and Puerto Madryn. The sun rose to its zenith and fell to the horizon as I watched the endless kilometers of pampas roll by. For some reason, I never tire of the planar, monotonous scenery.
I amused myself by reading an issue of the New Yorker and two issues of National Geographic that Liz brought down for me. I had put off reading them knowing that there would be a time when I would be grateful to have them. Interspersed with reading, there was a fairly good selection of movies playing on the bus DVD system. I watched "Death Sentence" and "Spy Game". I ate the food provided by Andesmar. It was nothing great but was perfectly edible. To stretch my legs a little, I got off of the bus at several of the stops. None of our stops lasted longer than 10 minutes so exercise consisted of walking to the Men's Room and back.
The woman and child next to me got off at San Antonio Oeste and were never replaced, allowing me to spread across two seats. Overall, I was surprised at how quickly the day passed and even more surprised when we pulled into Bahía Blanca, in southwestern Buenos Aires province, just before midnight. I was amazed we had already traveled so far. I took another Ambien and soon settled into a deep sleep.
