Day 176: February 7, 2008 Punta Arenas-Liz Arrives!

I arose at 7:30 and had breakfast. Afterward, I got on the internet from the residencial computer but could still not get into my email account. I called Juan Carlos and he agreed to bring the truck over at 1:00 so that I could be at the airport by 2:00 to pick up Liz at 2:15.

I paid $24 for my three-night stay and hung out at the hotel until Juan Carlos came. We loaded my things into the truck, the same one I used in December with my family, and he took me over to the apartment, on the corner of Chiloe and Croacia. It is a large, 3-bedroom place with nice furnishings, a full kitchen, laundry, the works. We agreed that he would return at 6:00 and we would pay him and sign the contract for the rental.

I drove out to the airport and noticed that the only flight from Santiago was arriving 45 minutes later than the LAN site indicated yesterday. I didn't think that it was Liz's flight. I bought a Chilean road map and sat down to study it. After about 5 minutes, I looked down and saw people streaming out of the airport with luggage. Thinking that maybe, for some reason, Liz's flight had never been posted on the arrival board, I went down to the baggage claim area. About five minutes later, Liz appeared, one of the last to get off the plane! She got her luggage and came out to a very warm and loving welcome. Her flight had been clear most of the way down from Santiago so she was already ecstatic about the natural beauty of the Andes and Patagonia.

We drove to the apartment and unloaded her luggage. She is a very light traveler! She needed some exercise, so we walked the few blocks down to the main square and checked out what was going on in bustling downtown Punta Arenas. Then, we went over to Gary's Ciberpool so she could email home. To my delight, I discovered that Rob Rodier had freed up my account. I immediately switched to a new password so that everything is operating smoothly again.

We returned to the apartment at 5:00 and started a load of laundry. Juan Carlos arrived promptly at 6:00. We rented the truck for 19 days. Because of that, he lowered the apartment price to $50/night so we'll take it tonight and Liz's last night. After he left, we walked over to El Quijote and split a dinner of Conger Eel-a new experience for her and the best I've had this year. By the time we were finished, around 11:00, we were both pretty beat. We returned to the apartment and hung up the laundry before turning in. God it was nice to have her by my side again!
