Day 107: November 29, 2007 In Salta

This will be my last post from Salta.

I got to the office around 9:30. Brevard's email seemed to be working fine. When Claudia came over, she and I ordered $465 worth of books from Amazon for the UNSa library: 2 that she wanted and three for José Viramonte. It turns out that some of the other books that Viramonte wanted are not sold by Amazon, just third party vendors. They should arrive sometime in March.

At around 11:00 I received an email that said the email system would go down at Brevard for unscheduled maintance for about 15 minutes. It went down and didn't come back up for the rest of the day. I can't believe how lucky I was to get the proposal off in the midst of all of these problems up there.

There wasn't much to do without the email. I spent some time on Facebook and then went up to the apartment and started packing things up. I will ship the things I don't need for the next two weeks and travel light once Elise (my older daughter) and Shirley (my mother) join us in Buenos Aires on Sunday.

The locusts were making a racket all day long. A rainbow was high in the late afternoon sky above the city but the rain evaporated before it hit the ground. It looked threatening all afternoon but it never rained.

Elena and Carlos stopped by to drop things off before going out for their final evening together. They were both pretty sad. They left to go to the artisan market and then to dinner.

I invited Toyo, Bernardo, and Jorge to go out to dinner with me next door. The restaurant was surprisingly busy. Ramon was surprised but happy to see me again. We ate really well and downed three bottles of wine. The total bill came to $56 with wine and tip included-amazing. Elena returned, on the verge of tears just as we were about to leave. She went to bed while the four of us enjoyed the nice evening from the balcony. Toyo and I stayed up the latest, turning in around 1:00.
