Day 103: November 25, 2007 Last Sunday in Salta

The weather broke during the night and it was a clear, beautiful day. The locusts were loving it. Elena and I went through the first part of our Sunday routine but after dropping off the laundry, she took a bus out to Carlos' house where his mother was preparing a big farewell lunch. I took a bus back to the apartment. Jorge and Bernardo were about to eat lunch but I decided to get to work on finalizing my proposal.

My email was still down-very frustrating. I suspect that means that it was down for everyone who went home for Thanksgiving and wanted to use their email too. Brevard College seems to have joined the Third World!

I was able to delete several large paragraphs from the proposal. This will allow me to submit a proposal that is under the word limit. I also made a last minute substitution of where I will collect samples in January. I think we will collect on the north shore of Bahía Inútil on the Chilean side of Tierra del Fuego.

Elena sent me a text message at 8:30 saying that she was on the bus back to the city. I caught a bus into town and we met at the corner of Entre Ríos and 25 de Mayo. From there, we walked three blocks to a the Cachapaya restaurant on Balcarce. She stopped at one of the artisan booths to buy herself a pair of glass earrings similar to those that she bought for her friends a couple of weeks ago.

Although the restaurant had a show going on inside, we decided to eat out on the sidewalk and watch the people. The food was good but not outstanding. After we finished, we walked a couple of blocks down Balcarce and found a cab which took us back to Grand Bourg. We arrived at 11:30.

I stayed up awhile with the guys. The night was extremely clear and the Moon was nearly full. The mountains on the east side of the valley were beautifully silhouetted against the deep blue night sky. I saw two meteors in the northeast. I stayed up to watch the news but fell asleep on the couch but awoke at 2:30 and went to bed.
