Day 100: November 22, 2007 In Salta: Thanksgiving Day
Elena was still not feeling well but went to school anyhow. I went to the office and finally broke through with my illustrations, getting all but one of them ready to put in the proposal. That task took up most of my day. I found a couple of illustrations on my hard drive that I drew years ago that were perfect for the job.
Toyo and I went down to Entre Ríos, late in the afternoon, to get gas for the truck and some food for tomorrow's field work. Afterward, I invited him to have Thanksgiving with us at the restaurant next door. He had never eaten there and accepted readily. Elena came home still not feeling great and decided not to go to dinner with us. Toyo and I entered together, the first in the restaurant, at 9:00. We ate very well. Ramon was very attentive. Toyo really enjoyed the night out. I enjoyed it too. It was a very different Thanksgiving for me. It just didn't feel like Thanksgiving. I was glad I could share some of it with Toyo.
It was nice to not have all of the Christmas shopping hype. The Christmas season still hasn't really started to take shape in Argentina. Every once and awhile I see some reference to Christmas and I am reminded that it's not too far off.
We returned to the apartment. Elena was still feeling just so-so. I told her to go to bed. Toyo went back down to the office. Bernardo, Jorge, and I drank some wine. We all turned in surprisingly early, around 11:30.
