Day 14: August 28, 2007 In Salta
There was some confusion about the pick-up time for Elena but it finally occurred about 9:45. She and Luchi rode to school with Toyo. The class is going on an overnight camping trip in a couple of weeks so everyone is learning how to cook chorizos on an open fire-a necessary skill in Argentina. Todd Fredericksen, at Ferrum College, Judy Muyskens, at Berea, and I kept up a furious email pace with Christian, our travel agent in Quito, to get January's Galápagos trip up and running. The official announcement should come out tomorrow. I checked airfares from Patagonia to Quito. It will be much cheaper to fly from Punta Arenas, Chile on LAN Chile than it will be to fly from Río Gallegos, Argentina on Aerolineas Argentinas, even though they are only a few hours apart.
I wrote a first draft of a work agreement between XR, UNSa, and me. I'm sure there needs to be a lot more added to it but it outlines the project pretty well.
In my effort to not gain too much weight while I'm down here, I've taken to eating Knorr instant soups for breakfast and lunch. They are really good. I had a couple of them for lunch and then went back down to the office to do some internet research.
After school, Elena and Luchi went to the English institute that Elena attended last week. Matías was home sick with a viral stomach problem. They returned to the office around 8:30. Elena had a geat day. She went out with some of the other girls for mate while Luchi attended a club meeting. She was all smiles-my little señorita!
We decided to go to the Vista del Condor, next door. We had our same waiter so my "generous" tipping policy paid off once again with excellent service. We stuffed ourselves with pasta and parilla. It was excellent. We got home at around 11:00. Elena went to bed while I stayed up and wrote.
