Day 2: August 16, 2007 Brevard to Atlanta
Day 2: August 16, 2007 Brevard to Atlanta-a Slightly Better Start
We both slept until 9:00. During the night I remembered a couple of things in my office that needed attention so I had breakfast a Burger King and went over to the College. Everyone was surprised to see me! I found some papers I had forgotten and then submitted two complaints to Delta's website: one about the Skymiles and the other about their lack of concern for the inconvenience caused to local residents. If I had made the last minute change, it would have cost me $100. I also had a back and forth with the accountant at the Fulbright Commission. I asked her to make a hotel reservation at the 8th of Octubre, which is very near the Commission offices. She thought we should go right to Salta but also come over to the Commission after purchasing our bus tickets. I thought about hauling all of our luggage through the terminal and knew that wasn't going to happen. She told me that the Commission doesn't make bus reservations or hotel reservations. I decided not to argue and to deal with it myself upon arrival. Thanks for your help!
I returned to Bob and Anne's and took a much-needed shower. Bob made sandwiches and we ate in the air-conditioned kitchen. It was sweltering outs At about 1:30 we left for the airport again, this time for a 3:55 flight.
Everything went fine through check-in, security, and boarding. About 15 minutes before boarding, however, we received a weather delay from Atlanta. We stayed on the tarmac for a little over an hour before finally being cleared for take-off. It was a jet flight so we were in Atlanta in 35 minutes. We took the train to our terminal; ate a fast food dinner; I bought Frederick Forsythe's The Afghan; and arrived at our gate just as boarding started. We were five minutes away from pulling away from the gate when the captain announced a radio problem that needed to be fixed. After an hour delay, it was announced that the plane could not fly until the problem was fixed so they were transferring everything to another plane. The transfer took more than two hours.
Finally, at about 12:30 we took off for Argentina. We had dinner and watched Fracture. It was good but I fell asleep before the ending. I must have been tired. I don't remember anything about it.
