Well here we are in Port Hedland - by necessity rather that by choice.  MAD have a broken shocker on their trailer and it has been flopping around like a knife in empty honey jar.  It needs to be replaced B4 we can continue on the dirt roads.  Would you believe we cannot find a suitable replacement one here.  One has to be flown in from Perth, hopefuly tomorrow.
I have three words to describe this place ugh, yuck and blah!  Its here purely to ship our comodities to the Asian markets and nothing else.  The three caravan parks are all full by lunchtime and we are in one which is right between the airport, the trainline and the major highway.  Sleeping was impossible last night.  We have tried to sight see but there not much on offer and we have had no joy trying to get our gear repaired and back on the road.  I  guess this just makes Happy Hour more worthwhile!!  On a positive note the weather is fine and sunny.

We have a BHP tour of the port facilities tomorrow a.m.  Then we will move on to Indee Station and then the National Parks which everyone is raving about.  Seems anyone can walk into a job any time here but getting accommodation is another thing all together.  A small unit here in this CP rents for $1,000 a week PLUS you pay your own power bill extra!  Cant really add any extra to this so will hopefully have lots of positive news and lovely photos for our next blog.  Its been great receiving replies to these entries and trust you aren't all freezing down south.

Bad luck about the shock absorber. Port Headland doesn't sound very pleasant at all but since when did it move into the middle of Australia??? Or was it that 'left turn at Albaquere' that gets Roger Rabbit each time?

The cost of things up there sounds horrendous but I guess that's what you get when there is no competition around. It must be a take it or leave it attitude.

Hope you get out of there soon and have smooth driving the rest of the way.

Take care

Alice & Chirs
