YAMBA - June 26th - July 1st 2008

Just look who was waiting for us at the gates to Yamba Waters Caravan Park! Marie & Alan
Fisher were on their way to Kingscliff and we were on our way from there. Had a lovely lunch with them in the park before headed off and we set up. Kev and Alan truly are the odd couple! Good mates!

Once again the park is very quiet, which we like. We had a lovely site and had the sun all day long. Temperatures whilst here were between 21 and 25 today, the st July. Hard to believe.

We had a leisurely trip across to Iluka on the ferry and a beautiful walk along the water. The pathway headed straight to the pub! No, we didn't know this previously but had a nice lunch.

All up the stay here was a lot of reading and walking. It is such a beautiful place as you can see from the photos. Out to dinner last night to a great Italian restaurant, and also had aftenoon drinks at the Pacific Hotel one afternoon after a long, hot walk. It was set right up on the cliffs overlooking the water and we were anxiously still looking out for whales. Saw a couple of blows a long way out but that was about it.

We also took a scenic route into Grafton checking out the town of Maclean "the Scottish town in Australia" due to the town's early settlement by the Scots. Many street signs carry the Gaelic translations. It is also famous for its powerpoles painted in hundreds of clan tartans and carrying the clan name to identify the tartan! Wow, how committed. It was a very pretty town right on the river and we enjoyed morning tea here.

Lunch was at the Crown Hotel in Grafton, once again overlooking the river. Kev really does love being near such mighty rivers and enjoying the tranquility of them. Home to pack up and head further down towards home, next stop Port Macquarie for 4 days.
