At this point, I make an executive decision that I need to wind down a bit as I'm excessively tired from my travels and the partying that the past few weeks has brought. I decide to get out of the city and visit Tina, who was my Au Pair when I was 12 and 13 years old. She was such a nice lady and had been back to visit my family twice since her year she spent with us when she was 20.
Tina lives in a tiny town/village/street/gathering of a few houses on a small island 15 minutes outside of Vordingborg, which is itself an hour and a half south of Copenhagen.
Tina picks me up at the train station and by the time we reach her house, I realize just how far in the countryside we are. We have to yield to horses on the unmarked road to get to her little neighborhood of a few houses surrounding a man made pond with a flag island in the middle.
Tina is such a warm lady and invites me to stay in the house she had just purchased a few months ago without questions. We relax for a little while and then she takes me on a nature walk through a forest and back around to the car by way of the beach! The landscape is beautiful and it feels great to be outside and in nature again. We get back to her house just in time to set up her new barbeque and sit outside on her patio as we grill and enjoy an amazing feast of chicken, Danish sausage, salad, and vegetables. The food is amazing and I keep eating and eating until I feel like I may actually have trouble with any dessert. Then Tina drops a bomb... dessert is bananas flambee (on the bbq) with ice cream, sugar and chocolate sauce on top... I find room in my spare stomach and thank my lucky stars that I decided to leave Copenhagen!
We spend the evening catching up, sharing photos and stories from our lives since 1995 when she was with our family. I see pictures of me and my family from 13 years ago that are absolutely hilarious! I can't wait to get copies and put up another album of pictures from back in the day. It was so cool to see Tina and relive the past decade or so of our lives! She seems very happy with her job, life, and new house. I get to bed nice and early and absolutely relaxed and happy.
