Humph... the lady at the hotel thought that we agreed to 100 Euro and not $100.  It's still only about $150, but that darn lost in translation thing definitely got me this time.  I use the internet to check on my Grandpa's status as my blackberry continues to not work on these islands, quite a nice reprieve actually!

I head up to Port Louis, the capital, and stop at Le Caudin Waterfront, which turns out to be just another shopping mall and not much of a craft market as compared to the ones I saw in South Africa and Madagascar.

Moving North, I stop at the SSR (Sir something something) Pamplemousses Botanical gardens at the suggestion of my sister, Julia.
They are really cool and would be perfect for a nice picnic, but after finding out that 98% of the islands flora was imported, it becomes a zoo of plants that just don't provide all that much excitement.

I move on to Grand Bai, the most popular tourist destination on the island that is known for its beaches and great weather.  After doing a tour of the cute beach town, I drive to a resort I had been told to go to for its beach and atmosphere, Le Canonnier (  Figuring that they were fully booked (almost every place in Flic en Flac was and this place was popular), I strolled right in to check in for my "reservation" under Levine.  When they were surprised that my name wasn't in the system, I was even more "flabbergasted"!  Management was summoned and they somehow found my room shortly thereafter...  I still don't know how.  Because I had "booked" a garden view room, they wound up giving me the ocean view room (I was practically in the ocean, it was awesome) at the garden view rate and threw in dinner and breakfast for the same price.  Heck, I've been getting fleeced by local people left and right, so what's wrong with a tourist trying to take advantage of locals from time to time???

I settle in to this beautiful resort and relax by the beach while trying to stay out of the sun.  It's unavoidable and I decide to try and swim out to a nearby island after the hotel aquatic co-ordinators tell me that the water is too rough for the boats to take me there.  About 20 minutes in I decided that this was probably a horrible decision in retrospect, not because of the 3 meter (~9 feet, am I thinking metric already???)  waves, but because it turns out that the island now appears to be even further away than when I started.  I make it back in time to take a short nap before enjoying my free buffet dinner and reading a bit as I head off to sleep with the sounds of the waves in the background.
