When we arrived in Aswan we first went and looked at the old and new dams. The first dam was built by the english in the early 1900's. The second dam was built around 1970 and formed the worlds largest man made lake. After looking at the dams we went to see the unfinished obelish in a local quarry. The obelisk would've been the biggest one made but cracked during the making of it and was left in the quarry. From there we checked into our cruise ship and had lunch. The ship was brand new and quite fancy for a contiki tour! All our meals were included on the ship and each one was a buffet so I was expecting to pig out at each meal.

After lunch I managed to find a Thomas Cook outlet where I could exchange my last traveller cheque and also withdraw some money. Hopefully this would see me through until I got back to Greece. In the afternoon, we went for a cruise on a felucca (an old style sail ship). We stopped off at a spot where we climbed up a huge sand dune. The sand dune was part of the Sahara desert and there wasnt much to see at the top except rocks and more sand. On the second night of the cruise we are having a fancy dress night, so after dinner we all went to the local markets to get some costumes. We ended up getting some costumes that made us look more like Arah sheiks than Egyptians but I wasn't prepared to wear a belly dancing outfit!!
