The city of Izmir was my next stop on the way back to Istanbul. It took about an hour by bus to get there from Selcuk. The hotel was in a nice location alongside the Izmir harbour. I spent most of the day walking along the harbour promenade and had lunch at one of the multitude of cafes in the area. The food was pretty average but the beers were pretty good!

Originally I was planning to go from Izmir to Bursa and then onto Istanbul. I hadn't had any accomodation booked in Bursa so I decided for a change and booked a ferry from Izmir to Istanbul instead. The ferry left at 4:30pm and arrived in Istanbul at 10:am. I had firstly booked just a seat but upgraded it later to a cabin. This was definately the better option as you could have a shower and a bed to sleep in. The ferry was pretty well equipped too, it had a restaurant, a cafe, gym and a pool which unfortunately they recently emptied. I thought briefly about having a workout but was worried about how I'd feel afterwards so gave it a miss. I will save that for when I get back home. At least one arm has been getting a good workout during my holiday.
