G'day!
Over the past few months I have been on the job hunt - searching near and far for any job to save money for the rest of our trip. After coming back to Sydney after being pretty unsuccessful in Melbourne, we searched and Mel was able to get a call centre job at night - it's for a medical company in the UK designed to help those with problems in the bedroom! Entertaining for her!
No such luck for me though. I managed to get a fruit picking job in Mildura for a few weeks - hard work and not much pay but a good experience nonetheless. If you do 3 months of fruit picking you can get a second working holiday visa but I'm not sure I can save money whilst doing that. It was nice working outside in the vineyards, saw a few fairly big spiders (harmless thankfully). I was there at the change over from Summer to Autumn and the early mornings got pretty cold! I was wearing two jumpers in the mornings The Vineyards of Mildura

Anyway, I left the delights of small town Mildura in Victoria to come back to Sydney for Mama's 3 week visit. We spent a few days in Sydney sight-seeing and then we flew to Adelaide ready to start a 7 day trip up to Alice Springs on a tour of the outback, the desert - the real Australia.
It was a really good trip - there were 21 of us in total with Clancy our tour leader driving the mini bus all the way and taking care of us. We saw all the major sights plus some smaller ones - stayed underground in the desert, went on a bike ride through the mountains, took a dip in a natural spring in the middle of the desert. Of course the main sights were Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas).
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the desert - despite the heat and many millions of flies - who knew there were so many flies in the world?!
The past couple of weeks I have been job hunting once again having almost emptied my funds in the desert. I have managed to get a job fundraising for Amnesty International on the street - not the best job but a job none the less. Hopefully I won't have to do it much longer as there are positions coming up where Mel works - more money and you don't have to be so enthusiastic all the time!
I spent my birthday asking people on the street for a minute of their time for Amnesty International. Not the most exciting day but as soon as I finished I met Mel in the pub for happy hour. I had a cake and all! Later we went out with a few friends for some drinks and I didn't spend a penny all night! So it was a good night :) I thank you for your birthday wishes, messages and donations - they are all very appreciated.
We are aiming to travel up the East Coast in July before we fly to New Zealand in August. I'm looking forward to travelling again - I've already had enough of this work malarky!
Love to you all xxxxxx
