Today we left Anchorage early in the morning, and headed towards Talkeetna. We booked the Summit McKinley flight with Talkeetna Aero Services for 11am (we used the coupon book we had, saving $275!!!). Unfortunately, the weather was really bad, and it didn't stop raining.
When we arrived to Talkeetna, we were told by the employees that the flights for this day were all canceled due to the weather. We were really disappointed (although we were aware such things might happen).
But lucky us: The company has a second office up in Healy. When we planned our itinerary, we took this into consideration, and made our plans so that we have a "free" day when we're in Healy (i.e. nothing scheduled for a certain time during this day).
Since the weather was so bad, and we couldn't really do much in Talkeetna since everything is outdoors, we headed north to Healy. A short time before getting to Healy we stopped for a late lunch at the Salmon Bake, located across the street from the hotels next to the Denali park entrance. Food was great, and I highly recommend it.
We arrived to the Denali Lakeview Inn late afternoon. The inn is TERRIFIC!!! We stayed and the Sparkling Waters room, located at the lower level. The place is located next to the lake, thus all the rooms at the lower level have a direct access to the lake.
Since there is no food or beverage sold within the Denali Park area, there is a possibility to place an order for sandwiches at the inn. You get a paper bag with your sandwich, as well as drinks and condiments. (Another possibility is to buy you food at Subway, across the street from the hotels area).
For dinner we chose the Black Diamond restaurant, located very close to the inn, right next to the golf course. Food was good, though a bit over-priced.
