What makes people do what they do?  What makes families do what they do?  What makes a couple do what they do?  What makes me do what I do?  What makes YOU do or not do what YOU do?

Just a few weeks ago I watched my 16-year-old daughter and her mother (the women of my dreams -and our 4 children) complete the Peach City Half Marathon in Penticton, BC. and was hit with yet ‘another realization’ when the legendary race commentator – Steve King described Sabrina as the 16 year old daughter of “Raymond Maaske – one of the fastest 200 meter sprinters”.   It is amazing how we feel when we hear our own name.  My ears perked up and another lifetime flashed thru my mind - as I sprinted to another finish line with Janice cheering me on; first by herself or a few friends then with one and two infants feeding, sleeping or crying.  WOW – how time flies.

If you are wondering why I just told you this; it is because TIME does NOT wait for anyone.  That day I got to watch my wife and child peruse their dreams which brings me back to the current post.  I find it interesting that if you are in your forties we talk a lot about the ‘midlife crisis’ and if we are teenagers we talk about ‘dreams and goals’.  Why is this?  How did this happen?  What is the difference between the two? – NOTHING!

Jumping from 10,000 feet this year with Sabrina helped me know the difference to living an excuse and just living!  I was scared ‘spitless’.  I have always tried to live and teach that the greatest obstacles we will ever face are those which we place in front of OURSELVES.

Steve King (who I had not even spoke to in a dozen years) remembered and mentioned me.  Not everyone has the memory of Steve, so do not chance someone remembering what your ‘used to be’ but make sure YOU know who you are – the planner, pursuer, and achiever of your goals and dreams!

We invite you to follow along our dreams not to separate us from you but to encourage you to GO FOR IT – whatever IT is!  Crisis or dream – IT’S OUR CHOICE.  Lets choose wisely. Leave “Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda;” for the title of someone else’s book !!

Raymond...there is nothing but 'genuineness' with you and your family refreshing to know someone who honestly puts their family first...there is so much in the world today of "how can you make me happy!" But not enough of: "How can I make you happy!" Sadly, so often we learn that lesson too late in life.....You are an inspiration to all 'family' men....Enjoy your well deserved trip......

I remember vividly you training for Ironman with James in a carrier on your back! We look forward to having you all stay with us as part of this trip. We often use your story to inspire others - to say nothing of the way you always have inspired us.
