I was met upon my arrival by my good friend, Maggie, and we had a fabulous time exploring the city and the area. I also got to re-connect, albeit for only a couple hours, with my old friend and colleague, Amber. It was great seeing her again and meeting her friend, Josh.
San Francisco continues to be one of my favorite cities in the USA: it is vibrant, diverse, and surprisingly walkable! Despite the hills, we spent the first two days walking throughout the main parts of downtown SF and were happy (and a little sore) for it. We were even fortunate enough to spot the legendary "Bush Man", although he was walking away and we didn’t get to see him in action. We also saw the small flock of wild parrots that ply the air around Telegraph Hill... I had been told they were gone, but fear not... they're still there! Within the city, I was particularly impressed by Golden Gate Park, which goes on for miles! One down side to SF is the concentration of beggars… they're actually fairly respectful, and their presence itself doesn't bother me; but I always wonder about their stories and what they've gained and lost along the way. We spent today outside the city, checking out Muir Woods (amazing) and a bit of Napa Valley.
Overall, a great start to my travels and glad to spend it in good company (thanks, Maggie!).
