March 6, California. We are on the last leg of our trip. We plan to drive scenic route 1 up the coast and find bed and breakfasts along the way. Our first stop after retrieving Jean’s luggage left at the Embassy Suite for two months is Santa Barbara. We found fun shops and good restaurants to visit. Then we visited wine county and headed to Cambria for a one night stay in a “log home” B&B. I arranged flowers from the garden for our wine and appetizer hour.
Our favorite part of Route 1 was the drive by Big Sur. With streets lined with redwood and sequoia, plunging cliffs and magnificent views of the Pacific it can only be called awesome. We stopped to see the elephant seals finding that only the huge bull seals and pups were left. The females had mated and gone out to sea. We also stopped at Nepenthe Restaurant to take in their incredible views. Our B&B, Carriage House Inn was fabulous with it’s warm fireplace and charming accents
We now continue north on Route 101 to visit John’s brother, Bob and his wife Karen. They live in San Jose with their two dogs Artic and Avalon. We hiked the spring like countryside with the puppies and enjoyed crab leg dinners, toured San Francisco and their work places. It was a relaxing way to end our trip.
Hard to believe 7 weeks is over. Our tour-de- Pacific has been filled with adventures and memories we will cherish. Thanks for joining us along the way and for your input. Jr1 and Jr2 signing off.
