That 10 mile stretch of water really does separate Europe from Africa.
The tribal mountain people trading in the casbah are proof of that, along with large amount of people wearing what I can only describe as a smock with a pointed hood ! clearly a place I need understand better, maybe our next trip ? North Africa ? we will see.
The city its self is not really any different from any other in Europe, its when you enter the you see some differences.
Yes you get all the stuff aimed at the tourists, carpets, pipes, furniture etc, you also get things like a one man in a small shop that takes a pattern of your feet and custom makes a pair of leather shoes/slippers (the type that curl up at the front)while you wait, or go off for lunch.(handy if you have huge feet like me !)
The only down side we encountered was the persistence of some of the touts/guides one followed us for a hour !
Generaly we found locals friendly and ready to smile.
Next time we are here we hope to get a bit further than just the port area !
