As Tarifa is on the southern tip of this peninsular it's often very breezy, sun worshipers get sand blasted so not really suitable for package tourism which may explain the laid back feel.
On the plus side, the long sandy beaches attract surfers and kite surfers and the cooling breeze makes the old white washed town and plazas a pleasant stroll even on the hottest days.
The restaurants and services (internet etc) are also good here which we have found lacking outside large cities elsewhere in Spain.
The views across to Morocco come as a surprise as its less than 10 miles to the North African mountains from here ! watching the huge number of cargo ships passing the straits is quite astounding.
Another plus for Tarifa is its 30 minute ferry to Tangiers in Morocco.
Well why not for a day trip ?
