work! trabajo!

This Rocks! So I started my work placement today. (Nobby, the presentence so-ing I blame on you.)I'm volunteering (as is the point of the program) on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Reserve. Mondays I work in the daycare at the Quinte Mohawk School, Tuesdays and Wednesdays I work at the Ka:Nhiote Mohawk Library! Then Thurs and Fri the whole group has educational days together. My work placement partner is my super good friend Lee. He's one of the Peruvians and has a 'crush on my hair'. I hope it stays only on my hair! He also speaks no english so the lessons are begininning tomorrow with me! The translating gets tiresome and I'm by no means a professional yet! I lied- the english Lee has managed to learn is "touch me Shannon, kiss me Shannon" so you can see the reason behind forced lessons here!
My life at my host home is a bit difficult but I figure it can only get better. My dad's really kind and gentle, I really like him. He reminds me a lot of Uncle Greg- so super! Do all farmers have that same little smile that comes through their eyes? Maybe I'll marry a farmer. I think it's against the CWY program rules though so marriage will have to wait. He teaching me how to milk the cows and its my job to get the milk and feed the cows. He also is going to let me see the calves be born and maybe help too! I finally got to get back into running which was needed, but I'm suffering without my swimming! It's surprising to me how necessary it has become!
It's hard to not see everyone in the program as much as I'm used to. We rely 100% on each other! We're all so vulnerable, its kinda funny to think about! I guess I'm still in shock by what good friends these people have become. It also frustrating though because I miss the more in depth conversation that I have with all you guys reading this. If you've ever been in a situation like this, you likely understand how language is modified for the sake of comprehension. Its difficult!
I made yogurt with Wayne (my host-dad) the other day. Its amazing! I'll scoop some into an envelope and mail it to you if you'd like. I've also been learning Peruvian cooking (Flo, I remember the meal deal)and its pretty yummy! We're all going to Ottawa tonight to meet the 'Big Peeps of Canada' and Jacques Herbert (Canada World Youth founder). So thats David Tilson for me- he sends my family stamped Christmas cards, thats all I know of him! Not much interest for North American ploitics I'm afraid! This is too long. I'm frustrated with this way of communicating because it makes it seem so dull! I wish I could just bring you here for a day so you can laugh until you've peed your pants with me!
Hasta luego! Shannon
