This morning I considered hanging out in my hotel another day (I really loved that hotel) but decided to head off to Greece. Of course, I very conveniently then left my Greek Islands guidebooks all on the bed of the hotel as I left. Dur. I've now been traveling about a month though, and when you get to this point nothing seems like a big deal anymore. I won't be spending much time in the Isles and I can look hotels up online so no biggie.

By the way, that has been one of the biggest new things about this trip... the internet REALLY helps to make life so much easier! It used to be that I would take a bus (or train, or boat) somewhere with an idea of where you wanted to stay, but sometimes the guidebooks would be out of date. And when you show up without a place to stay, it is very common for people from hotels to stand by the terminals to try to almost kidnap people to go to their hotels. Sometimes you can find good places that way. But sometimes I don't want to have to deal with any of that, so now thanks to the internet if I want to I can book ahead easily and have a better idea of what I'm arriving to stay in. Sometimes I'll pay a little more than if I got the hotel at the last minute, but the stress is much less and so I've decided that I don't always care. Sometimes I really just don't feel like staying in the old backpacking hotels I used to frequent. (I remember one particular place in Nice, France that I was dragged to that had a broken bidet in the main room with a sign that said "For Your Feet.")

The day before I go to a city, I just go online and google the city name and "lodging reviews" and then I read the comments people have made about hotels. Often there are one or two in particular that I see interesting raves about, and I can either reserve a room online or e-mail them to expect me at a particular time. Then when I arrive at my destination I can just get a cab, show the driver the address I wrote down, and I am in my room in minutes flat with absolutely no stress whatsoever. It's SOOOO much better and easier this way! Gotta love the internet.

Well, I'm in Samos right now and I need to find a hotel for Mykonos for tonight. Then tomorrow I will be heading to Santorini for a few days of relaxation, I hope. It's a touristy island but I also hear good things about it so we'll see.
