Aphrodesias is actually one of the best Roman ruins I have been to. They are still excavating, so who knows what else is still yet to be discovered there. It is such beautiful country and it was a really beautiful day. About 85 degrees with a light breeze.
It was so strange to sit in the Aphrodesias stadium by myself and read a book. The stadium was built to seat 30,000 people, and I began to imagine what it must have been like when full. And then I started to imagine what the Rose Bowl might look like in a few hundred years... except that since The Rose Bowl isn't built of marble it probably won't look like anything at all, and yet this ruin in Aphrodesias will no doubt still exist as it does today.
