with our time in Costa Rica coming to an end we decided ONE LAST HOORAH was in order and that was going to be in Tamarindo with our friends, the Martinkas. the love birds were going to be there for their honeymoon AND Leslie's birthday. of course we ONLY saw them on the night of her birthday...its their honeymoon, DUH! leaving Montezuma to get to Tamarindo was a GIAGANTIC PAIN!!! for my sanity, i am not even going to go into all the details, i will share however that we got a nice three hour nap on a park bench while waiting for a connecting bus, were welcomed by a PARTY FERRY who bumped Snoop Dogg and AKON. ha, that was a first. AND after twelve hours of travel we were fed up and hired a taxi to drive us for the last thirty minutes into Tamarindo.

during that twelve hours we met two nice German girls and one of them spoke EXCELLENT spanish. she became our new best friend and helped us find a hostel. Tamarindo is the LARGEST beach town that we have visited in Costa Rica and very touristy. upside, LOTS TO DO. downside, TONS OF VENDORS HUSSLING YOU. the city lines the beach with restaurants. surf shops. hotels. markets. and dance clubs. unce. unce. unce. the beach is busy with walkers. boogie boarders. surfers. beach bunnies. shells. and the occasional volleyball game. the ocean was clear. warm. and had awesome waves to play in. HANDS DOWN, its the nicest beach we've seen in Costa Rica. thank you Martinkas for choosing Tamarindo!!

restaurant on the beach, check. happy hour, check. sunset, check. nachos as fat as your ass, check. literally called that on the menu, ha. we were invited by the Germans girls and her tican boyfriend to go dancing at a local spot that night. don't have to ask me twice. walking through the dark ally ways, getting eatin alive by mosquitos to find this backyard bar with a live band. we enjoyed the evening tearing up the dancing floor, practicing our salsa skills. there might have been two people who left that night soaking wet from the killer moves that were taking place. watch out Shakira. ha!

the second evening we met up with the Martinkas to celebrate Leslie's birthday. drinks. dinner. salsa. we had a nice four course meal followed by a champagne treat to wash it down. a mariachi band helped us sing feliz cumpleanos and we were off to SALSA. we stepped on the dance floor all business. sassy hips. strategic foot moves. lots of tight twirls. and you gotta throw in a few high pitched tounge rolls so they know you're serious. this girls WAS NOT shy about the tounge rolls, ha!

we had a GREAT time in Tamarindo and it was the perfect Costa Rica send off. after a month being away from home it was nice to have an evening with friends. no five dollar stories. having to ask where they were from. how long have they been in Costa Rica. what did they do for a living, etc. etc. etc. the evening was full talking of MEMORIES. Tamarindo. and how our sport teams were doing back home. WE LOVE YOU MARTINKAS!

Fun Facts:
-the Martinkas had befriended a dog while in Tamarindo and it followed us EVERYWHERE. dinner. salsa. it all but jumped in the taxi with them when they headed home. we would be dancing and i would turn around to find Leslie half dancing with Dusty and half petting the dog. that woman LOVES her animals. curious to know if she convinced Dusty to bring it home with them. ha!

doughnuts are AMAZING here. BIG CAKE with sweet frosting. they don't leave your tounge with a greasy feeling or a hurt belly. two thumbs up.

baguettes, cream cheese and bologna have been a standard in our diet.
