NOTE:  Mom's Day 2011.  Lovely day in San Diego.  Lots of walking around ending with $6.00 martinis at the US Grant Hotel.  Phone calls from all the kids which was great and the terrific news that Angi is going to be a great, great AUNT!

Then, what a lovely drive we had from San Diego to Los Angeles EXCEPT for our attempt to dine by the Pacific Ocean.  We found the coast road through Oceanside, Del Mar and Laguna Beach beautiful and decided to have a picnic.  However, there just isn't that many places to park Bubba along the way.  We finally spotted a parking lot next to a public beach so we whipped in (NOT!), set up Bubba for a view and got into fixing lunch.  Five minutes into eating, a security officer is making a bee line for Bubba.  Well, apparently nothing over 20 feet can use the lot.  Honest, we didn't see the sign!  She told us that the police were quite strict about patrolling the lots and generous with their citations.  So we packed up our lunch and left our scenic view behind with turkey wraps in our hands.  Live and Learn!

Next stop...Pomona...about 35 miles west of LA.  We hooked up Bubba, put on our clean clothes and were picked up by our LA chauffeur and tour guide, Rob Poynter.  It was great to have someone move us around especially since he wasn't depending on the 4 voices from the back seat telling the driver where to go.  We had a great dinner at Rob and Angie's house in the hills. Adorable house, spectacular view of the surrounding hills and surprise company.  Kim Schoen was there (a long time friend of Chris' who lives up the road from Rob and Angie), Sarah Baker (another long time friend of everyone) and Bobby and we all got to meet Tiffany, a BFF of Angie. So good to see everyone and a great evening!  THANKS ANGIE AND ROB!

On Wednesday, Rob was all ours and took us to great sights.  First, Auntie Em's for lunch, then onto Huntington Gardens.  Oh my, how beautiful!  We walked through (and had a great docent tour) the cactus gardens -- amazing! -- then onto the rose garden -- awesome -- and lastly through the Huntington home with its priceless works of art.

After a riding tour in and around Pasadena and a stop at the Disney Symphony Hall (WOW!), we found ourselves at Cole's, the home of the original french dip sandwich.  We scoffed those down like crazy combined only slightly with extra dirty martinis, wine and beer.

Day 2 in LA found us aboard an open topped bus doing our best to be cheesy.  What else but a Hollywood tour of stars' homes!  Besides looking at numerous fences and shrubs belonging to famous people (Tom Cruise, Michael Jackson, David Beckham, the Playboy Mansion, etc., etc.,), we got a chance to drive through Beverly Hills, up Mulholland Drive and the Hollywood sign, Rodeo Drive, Sunset Blvd. and more.  It was fun and nice to be in the pretty CA sun.

The onto The Grove and the Farmer's Market -- a great place to wander -- and the Getty Museum. OMG, what a magnificent museum and a spectacular building and vistas you wouldn't believe. Unfortunately, we got there a couple of hours before closing but made the best of our time.  Also unfortunately we said good bye to Angie and Rob after some great pizza and left them in their little slice of heaven.

Today, up the coastal highway to San Luis Obispo and more adventures.  Stay tuned!

It sounds like you are having a ball. Keep up the good work! Steve and I RV'd for two years and it seems like a brief blip on the screen. So savor every moment!

We just got back from LA on Tuesday - had we only known you'd be there we might have been able to make other plans!! Did a few of the things you did including the Getty - fantastic! Had a great trip to Australia and New Zealand and recuped for 3 1/2 days in LA.

Sounds like you four are having a ball!! Continue to enjoy yourselves; I'm loving your blog and imagining you driving that scenic highway in a 30' vehicle. Gads! Some of that road is hard enough in a normal car!! Take care - and no more conflicts with the law!

Love and Happy Thoughts.

Wow. I'm impressed. All this time traveling and just had your first encounter with the law. Congratulations! BUT I can't believe the 4 of you couldn't sweet talk him into letting you finish your scenic lunch!

I recently confessed to my Dad that when Scotty and I lived in San Diego I went to LA with the Girls and said " hey look, y'all, we're on ROW-D-O Drive! Little did I realize we were shopping on RODEO Drive! Anyhoo, I have the best pictures and memories from that trip! Live it up Mama! -CR
